Why is it important that a locksmith be licensed?

Licensing insures that the locksmith possesses certain knowledge and skills and, thus, is competent at his job. In addition, because licensure requires registering with the state, a licensed locksmith is less apt to engage in criminal activity or suggest unneeded products and services to inflate the cost of a job.

Why is it important that a locksmith be bonded and insured?

Liability insurance will reimburse the customer for accidental property damage or for medical care if the locksmith is injured on the job—an expense for which the customer is generally liable if the locksmith is uninsured because the injury took place on the customer’s property.

Bonding is simply an added measure of insurance whereby the locksmith pays a fee in return for a guaranteed amount of reimbursement if damage or injury occurs on the job.

Should locks be routinely checked and serviced by a locksmith?

Absolutely, and far too few people take the time and expense to do so. Locks are complicated mechanisms that can fall out of tune with changes in weather and slamming of doors, etc. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention.
